Andrea began her travel odyssey at the tender age of 18, working for a corporate agency in Manhattan. Barely a year later she opened her own agency in Queens with the emphasis on personalized, ‘custom’ leisure travel – the same model she employs today. In time Andrea married and started a family – and decided it was time to set down roots in a community where her family would thrive – she chose Stony Brook.
In 1978 she brought her agency (then known as Personal Travel), to Stony Brook. Over the past years the Stony Brook location moved three times to accommodate a growing clientele and the changing times; what has never changed is her love of travel and her commitment to excellent customer service. That she now plans travel for the second (and third!) generations of her clients’ families bears testimony to her exceptional service, her knowledge and her enduring interest in her clients’ satisfaction.
Over 36 years of experience have sharpened Andrea’s ability to find exactly the right arrangements for every customer. Though Andrea has traveled extensively she has no “favorite” destination, although she admits to a fondness for planning ‘special holidays’ in Italy – perhaps because the ‘romantic feeling’ Italy exudes matches her own romantic soul. No matter where her clients roam, they always return – with happy memories, broad smiles – and a desire and interest in their next destination already brewing!
Kimberly Scharf has had a variety of experiences in her 25 plus years working in the travel industry, including corporate, retail and even some time with The Love Boat. All of this has helped her accumulate a diverse amount of knowledge that she continues to expand.
Her varied interests and her love of culture has sent her on amazing adventures and introduced her to some incredible people. The many Surf Competitions she has attended all over the world, Skydiving the North Shore of Hawaii, Shark Feeding in French Polynesia, dining with the chef at a Michelin restaurant, viewing Edvard Munch’s The Scream with the Queen of Norway, are just some her favorite memories of her travels.
Most recently she toured Ireland and Northern Ireland staying in Castles, eating and drinking all along the way. She also has spent a lot of time in the Caribbean, has driven cross country 3 times, the California coast more times than she can count and at one time spent 3 days every month in Las Vegas.
Kim is known for saying “It is not what’s best, it is what is best for you” and her clients, who have become friends, are always excited when she advises them of something different that fits their personal style. Her eclectic taste in movies and music can also find her clients watching or listening to something to get them even more excited about an upcoming vacation.
If it is a quick get-away to the Caribbean, a few nights in Vegas, family cruise or a detailed independent European vacation, Kim works hard to make it unique to the interests of the client.
Krysta Kunze began her career in travel over 20 years ago. There have been many changes in the industry and keeping up with the different travel trends is what makes Krysta a valued and sought after member of the Blue Ribbon Stony Brook Team. She has a strong and longtime connection to the Stony Brook area and understands the varied needs of its community.
She enjoys different types of vacations. She loves Florida and California, but Hawaii is one of her favorites. She has visited many Caribbean islands, loves go sightseeing, and her relaxing spa time is the best part of those vacations. Iceland was unexpected and a different type of vacation that she equally enjoyed – it combined her love of spas with a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon and her love of adventure. It was also her first trip to Europe.
Being a part of her clients’ travel memories and amazing experiences is the most fulfilling part of Krysta’s travel career, with most of her clients becoming longtime friends. She enjoys seeing them through all of their happy milestones. Krysta looks forward to continuing to help create personal and family memories with all her clients, both new and long-standing.
